Introducing

Jonathan Wright is a master globemaker specialising in the creation of exquisite, bespoke globes and the conservation and restoration of historic and antique globes.

With over a decade of experience in this endangered heritage craft, Jonathan's journey began at Bellerby & Co. Globemakers, where he led globe production for over 9 years. Now operating as J. Wright Globemaker, his focus is on crafting globes with meticulous attention to detail, bringing to life unique artworks that are tailored to the individual preferences of discerning clients.

Globes have served various purposes throughout their long history, and Jonathan's creations reflect a new focus on capturing personal histories through bespoke cartography. With a dedication to using the finest materials he ensures that their beauty and significance are preserved for generations to come.

Driven by an unwavering passion for his craft, Jonathan has not only honed his skills but also trained a new generation of makers and cartographers. In recognition of his commitment and desire to expand his expertise, Jonathan has been awarded the prestigious QEST Scholarship to study the conservation and restoration of globes.

Currently, Jonathan is conducting research into the secretive techniques of European globemakers from the 17th to the 20th century. With unparalleled access to the National Globe Collection at the National Maritime Museum, his background and expertise enable him to unearth new insights into this ancient craft.

Jonathan holds a BEng in Design & Innovation (First-Class Honours), GradDip in Conservation (Distinction), and is currently completing an MA in Conservation. He was made a fellow of the Royal Geographical Society in 2016 for his work in the field of globemaking.
