Nadia Dunne

Corsetiere

Introducing

Nadia is corsetiere by trade with a long family history in tailoring. After studying costume design at De Montfort University, she quickly realised her passion and skill lay in making costumes as opposed to designing them. Having left university, Nadia undertook an apprenticeship at ‘Angels the Costumiers’ one of the oldest costume houses in the world and began working in the alterations department and quickly moved up the ranks to the ladies' costume making department. Work was varied and interesting ranging from traditional corset making to Victorian gowns and modern sci fi costumes. For the last 5 years the focus has been on corsets, gowns and bespoke wedding dresses. From the initial design process through to toiling and the finished product everything is done in house and by Nadia herself.

Craft Spotlight

Corsets

Whilst everyday corset wearing is considered a thing of the past, they are still a popular addition to eveningwear or bridal wear. A traditional, fully boned corset gives a wonderful silhouette and a secure, almost powerful, feeling when worn.

Each corset is as different as the client who commissions it and just about every detail can be adjusted and made to suit your tastes and needs.

Bridalwear

Quite possibly the single most important item of clothing you will ever buy for both the bride and groom. The amount of time, effort and money involved in choosing your wedding outfit is usually never matched! Today's brides tend to have a good sense of their own style and exactly how they want to look on their wedding day. If you have a very particular look in mind or want a few details combined into one dress, you may consider having your outfit custom made. Wearing a one off, bespoke design on your wedding day is truly special!

Eveningwear

Nadia can cater for any celebration including 18th birthdays, wedding anniversaries, vow renewals, bat-mitzvas and holy communions. There is nothing more special than having an outfit made for your special day. All ages and styles can be catered for.

Gown and dress restoration

The restoration of vintage garments is a labour of love and takes time, patience and a real eye for detail. As well as the damage to be repaired there are many other factors to consider such as how realistic the project is and how much of the garment can be saved, the integrity of the fabric left over, colour fading of the original fabric and how well you are able to match anything to be added to the garment.

Alterations

Even when buying a wedding dress ‘off the peg’ you will need some sort of alteration. A full range of bridal alterations from simple hemming to fully remodelling your dress is offered.

No detail is too small, and nothing is overlooked from your first fitting, to pressing and delivery of your wedding dress.

Teaching

One to one tuition from design through to pattern cutting and construction is a passion. Nadia has both domestic and industrial machines for you to use or you can bring your own machine along.
