Grandey’s Place funds a special ‘thank you’ to the NHS and Key Workers

Published on Sun 25 Oct 2020 at 00:00

Trustees of Grandey’s Place have been guided by the Heritage Craft Association towards Blacksmith Fred Suffield and his 200 year old Anwick Forge, near Lincoln, in order to design and create 3 special Rainbow Benches, that say ‘Thank you’ to the NHS and Key Workers.

The grant allowed Fred to pull his two fellow Blacksmiths back from Furlough and has provided 3 months of artisan work. Each bench is crafted utilising century old techniques and fashioned with Copper, Brass, Stainless Steel and Steel for the ‘rainbow’ and solid English Oak for the seat. 14 different languages including Braille are engraved into the bench, each representing both the staff and patients of the NHS. Here you see the first of the benches positioned in BARTS Hospital’s beautiful Fountain Square.
