Published on Sat 13 Jun 2026 at 00:00

Congratulations to our brilliant globemaker and conservator, Jonathan Wright, whose fascinating and mystical craft has featured in BBC News coverage.

Jonathan spoke to BBC reporter, Tony Fisher, about how he got started, what projects he’s working on now, and revealed he has previously worked on globes for North American leaders and Hollywood actors!

Jonathan has also featured on a recent, award-winning podcast What’s Your Map? produced by Oculi Mundi (‘eyes of the world’). Jonathan talked to map historian, Jerry Brotton, about a very special twelve-inch celestial globe (pictured) produced by Scottish firm James Kirkwood & Sons from 1810. For Jonathan, this particular globe marks a significant career milestone, as it was the very first one he ever restored.
