A bespoke globe donated by Grandey’s master globemaker, Jonathan Wright, has fetched £10,000 at an auction for the craft skills and education charity, the Queen Elizabeth Scholarship Trust (QEST).
Jonathan’s globe was among a number of unique lots auctioned at QEST’s Ultimate Evening of Craft event held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in South Kensington, London, on Wednesday 18th March. The evening brought together a remarkable gathering of QEST craftspeople, supporters and friends of the charity for an immersive and inspiring showcase and fundraising reception.
Jonathan, who was appointed a QEST Alumni Trustee in 2023, said: "QEST has played such a pivotal role in my own craft journey. As a former scholarship recipient, it is a real privilege to now be able to give back and support the transformative work it continues to do. The breadth of talent and diversity within British craft today is truly inspiring, and it was an honour to be part of such an exceptional gathering of makers and conservators."
QEST is a charity that transforms the careers of talented and aspiring makers by funding their training and education, creating pathways to excellence and strengthening the future of the UK’s craft sector.
Grandey’s Place is proud to be associated with the charity and to have six QEST Scholars, including Jonathan, among its resident craftspeople. Grandey’s Place has also funded training for six further QEST Scholars and Emerging Makers.
